PDA chairman and MLA K Ranjit Singh today handed over Rs 1 lakhs each to the bereaved family members of the four persons who were killed in the August 10 firing incident near Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kakching Khunou.
The ex-gratia amount of Rs 1 lakh each was handed over to the family members of slain Angom Ibomcha of Sugnu Awang Leikai, Angom Sadananda of Sugnu Moirangthem Leikai and T Paokhoulien Zou of Sugnu Zouveng and Wahengbam Gouramani of Sugnu Awang Thongkhong during a simple function held at the office chamber of the MLA this afternoon.
The MLA also handed over Rs 10,000 each to the family members of Moirangthem Chourjit of Sugnu Makha Leikai and Huidrom Biren of Sugnu Bazar who sustained injuries in the incident.
Speaking at the occasion, Ranjit expressed fear that with both the security force and the underground activities targeting the innocent people, a time would come when there won't be any more civilian population.
Only the security personnel and the underground activists would remain then, he said, and fervently appealed to all concerned to restrain from targeting the innocent people.
DC of Thoubal P Vaiphei and SP NishitkumarUjjawl were also present at the occasion.
Market construction: The construction of the Ima Keithel, Luxmi Bazar and Purana Bazar is likely to begin from next month.
Talking to mediapersons, PDA chairman K Ranjit informed that the tender work for construction of the three markets is nearly completed.
The project cost has also been increased from Rs 75 crores to Rs 45 crores.
The Union Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation would be providing the fund for construction of these market complex.
