Session Judge, Manipur East released Dr Mutum Bikramjit Singh who was arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Kolkota based chartered accountant RN Singh for ransom on bail on medical ground today.
Bikramjit (26) of Lalambung Makhong along with five others were rounded up by the police early this month after they kidnapped and demanded Rs one crore from RN Singh.
In today's proceedings, the session judge stated that the accused Dr Bikramjit is in the intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU) at RIMS.
Considering his illness, the court granted him bail on executing a PR Bond of Rs 20,000 and two surety bonds of the same amount to the satisfaction of the CJM.
The accused is to give an assurance that he will not leave the State without obtaining permission from the CJM and that he will not do anything pre judicial to the prosecution, the court said.
It is learnt that three accused Ganesh Gurung, Sourav Dey and Satjal Abhishek have been detained under the National Security Act by orders passed by the dist Magistrate Imphal West.
S Bhopendro has also filed another bail application with the sessions judge, Manipur East said another source.
Rights panel seeks report on MR missing case: Having perused the three complaint petitions made in connection with the missing of the three riflemen belonging to the 1st Bn Manipur Rifles, the Manipur Human Rights Commission has today sought reports on the matter from the DGP.
The proceedings followed the petitions filed separately by the wives of the three missing jawans namely Joy Bahadur, NK Purna Bahadur and Ham Bahadur.
All are re-ported to be from New Checkon.
The petitioners prayed before the commission for tracing their missing husband and to take up necessary actions for paying Rs 10 lakhs each as compensation covering retirement benefit, ex-gratia, pension, gratuity etc.
According to the petition Joy Bahadur had been serving in the 1st Bn MR since 1964 till his whereabouts were not known on May 1977.
