Along with paying rich tributes to poet Khwairakpam Chaoba on this 115th birth anniversary today, literary awards were presented to five writers to mark the occasion.
Noted litt�rateur Naorem Kalimohan Singh and president of Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti Longjam Joychandra attended the anniversary function as chief guest and president respectively.
The five writers who were honoured with various awards at the occasion are Imojit Ningombam, Chingkheinganba Thangjam, Vawani Adhikari, Ngathem Ningol Kongbam Ongbi Ibeyaima and Ngangom Akashini Devi.
Imojit was honoured with the Thokchom Jogendra Ningshing Mana Medal for his anthology of poem, 'Punshigi Loinaidraba Eshei'.
Donated by Shrimati Kripamayi Devi, the award carries a gold medal, a shawl and a citation.
Chingkheinganba was honoured with Telem Indubala Mana for his English translation work, 'O ! Lovely Greece' from the original Manipuri work, 'Nungshibee Greece' by Saratchand Thiyam.
The award is donated by Telem Ongbi Kumari Devi and it consists of a shawl and a citation and a cash reward of Rs 5000.Vawani received the Padma Devi Award for her collection of poems, 'Korougi Masek Mangal'.
Donated by Ch Gopal Sharma, the award consists of a citation, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs 7000 .
For her book on folktales titled, 'Umaibi Amasung Atei Phunga Warishing', Ibeyaima was honoured with the Telem Ningol Atoibemma Award.
The award is donated by Lamabam Gojendra and it comprises cash prize of Rs 5000, citation and shawl.
Lastly, Akashini was honoured with Moirangthem Narendra Sanagi Medal for her book, 'Meitei Amaibi'.
The award comprises a gold medal, a citation and a shawl.
As part of the anniversary observance, Dr M Priyobarta presented a critical appreciation of the book Eduningthougee, a collection of poems written by Arambam Ongbi Memchoubi.
The book has won the Sahitya Akademi award in literature for 2008 .
