Imphal, September 05, 2010:
Lauding the contributions made by Manipuri women in the society, BJP Mahila Morcha National president Smriti Irani has called upon Manipuri women to join electoral politics.
Speaking to media persons at the BJP Nityaipat Chuthek office here this morning before leaving Imphal at the end of her two day visit to the State, Smriti Irani remarked that Manipuri women can face all kinds of challenges and have been at the van guard in the movement to bring a social revolution.
However, despite their huge contributions to the society, participation of Manipuri women in electoral politics is minimal.
She asserted that Manipuri women need to join electoral politics in order to bring development and peace in Manipur.
Interaction with women vendors of the unique Ima Keithel revealed that the common people of the State have been reeling under severe hardships.
From the interaction, it could also be learnt that the incumbent Government is neck-deep in corruption, Smriti Irani asserted.
Taking strong exception to the suspension of Imphal Municipal Council for six months, the BJP Mahila president speculated that the suspension might have been done with an eye on the funds sanctioned by the Central Government.
BJP has appealed to the relevant authority at the Centre to withhold funds for Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission meant for Imphal, Irani stated.
The daily happenings being witnessed in the State were a clear testimony that the SPF Govt was not working in the interest of the people.
Again, the mass exodus of Manipuri students and educated youth for higher studies and in search of jobs to other cities of India were manifestations of the incumbent Government's abject failure in education and employment sectors, Smiriti Irani remarked.
BJP would raise the issues plaguing Manipur on proper platforms like the Parliament at national level.
The party would also make necessary efforts to check harassment of girls from the North East region at Delhi and other States of India, she added.
