Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), made up of players from the Army, Navy and Air force upstaged Manipur in the medal race with only two days left for close of the 33rd National Games being held here.
Compared to Manipur winning handful of gold medals in women�s cycling, boxing and weightlifting besides top podium finishes in sepak takraw, Services dominated men�s boxing and water sports evebts fetching maximum number of medals to replace Manipur at the top.
The day began with laishram Monica Devi lifting 106 kgs in snatch and 123 kgs in clean & jerk to win the gold medal in women�s 69 kg category with a total of 229 kg lift.
A Janeshwori Devi added a silver medal in 75 kg class with a lift of 90 kg in snatch followed by 110 kg in clean and jerk.
Manipur wrested both the men�s and women�s team event sepak takraw gold medals defeating their respective opponents with identical two sets to nil margin at the North Frontier Railway Indoor hall today.
In the men�s final, Manipur players combined skill with experience to close the first regu at 21-10, 21-16 before clinching the gold with a 21-10, 21-13 win in the second regu.
On the otherhand, the women�s team had a relatively easier outing against hosts Assam in the final winning 21-4, 21-13 and 21-10, 21-4.The boxing ring yielded one gold, two silver and two bronze medals with world champion L Sarita Devi defeating her Kerala rival Ashiswathi 25-19 in the 54 kg women�s final as K Mandakini (48 kg) and Ch Latarani (50 kg) had to be content with silver medals.
Two other women pugilists, S Ibemcha (60 kg) and Radiya (66 kg), prevailed over their respective opponents to reach the final round.
Male boxers secured the two bronze medals as Tomba (69) and harbinder (91) faltered in their semi final bouts.
In 200 metre four-kayak women�s final Kh Indiba, A Nanao, S Nanao and K Rajita finished second, while W Amutombi provided a bronze in 200 metre single kayak (C-9) event as A nanao and L Boni teamed up to win a bronze in 200 metre double kayak (K-2).Other medal winners Judo Women�s 52-57 kg: L Nirupama - Silver; Men�s 60-66 kg: I Sanju - silver.
Rowing 500 mtr single scull: Th Chaoba Devi - bronze; 500 mtr coxswain-less 4: Kh Debala, H Kunjeshwori, O Rameshwori, Zingraphy Shanglai - silver.
Shooting 50 metre women�s team rifle: Soubam Sobita, Nongthombam Saini, Nongthombam Indrasini - silver.
50 km road mass start (cycling): Gurumayum Gitanjali - bronze.
