Deputy inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) Brig JC Sharma today flagged off a 15 day long National Integration tour from Mantripukhri.
The tour organised by 32 AR under the aegis of Hqs 9 Sector AR and HQs IGAR (S) as part of the Military Civic Action programme consist of 25 students including 10 girls and will visit Delhi and Agra.
Quoting one of the students as saying that "peace is first and foremost for progress in my State", a release of IGAR (S) conveyed that the excursion has been concieved to expose the children to peace and development outside Manipur and strengthen national integration amongst children of insurgency affected Imphal district.
The trip endeavours to show the children from Manipur the rich cultural diversity of the Nation as also an opportunity for them to visit the national capital, metropolitan cities and visit the world famous Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri etc, the release added.
In his address prior to flagging off the tour, Brig Sharma stated that aim of the excursion is to develop a sense of nationalism and increase awareness of avenues of education and development available in other States and Delhi.
The children were also advised to observe how development has been achieved, through peace and harmony in the State they will be visiting.
On their way the children will visit War Cemetery, museum and Catholic Church in Kohima.
Tour itinerary during their stay in Delhi include visits to places of historical interest like India Gate, Qutab Minar, Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, Raj Ghat, Shanti Van, Vijay Ghat, Rail Museum etc apart from a schedule to interact with the President of India on November 26.
