The two-day seminar on 'the role that the Manipur Muslims should play in fighting against the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Manipuri society' concluded at Madrasa Alia Lilong today along with adopting various recommendations.
The recommendations include organising mass awareness programme and discussion session on the issue at all the educational institutions, localities, Tabligh Jamaat, Madrasa, etc; joint co-operation and support of all the Muslim women, youth, Moulwi, Moulana, Imam in he ongoing campaign of AMADA; joint efforts of AMADA and Mohallah Committees to prevent abuse and trafficking of drugs in all Muslims settlement areas of Manipur and award appropriate actions against those who defy the restrictions in accordance to Islamic law as decided by the Mohallah Committees concerned, to encourage sports under Sports Development Mission of AMADA in all the Muslim settlement areas so as to help youth to stay away from drugs, extending the facilities for health care mission of AMADA in all the remote Muslim villages, setting up of a drug de-addiction cum rehabilitation centre exclusively for the Muslims at a suitable site and inclusion of topics related to the issue of drugs in the curriculum of the school education.
In all 12 papers on different topics related to the issue of drug abuse and its implication in Manipuri society and the role of Manipuri Muslims in fighting against the menace have been presented by 12 resource persons during the course technical session of the two-day long seminar.
The technical sessions were moderated by Reader of PG Department of Anthropology, DM College of Science Dr SA Latif and general secretary of Jamiatun Ulamae, Manipur Moulana Sayeed Ahamad.
Around 400 delegates and invitees from various Muslim settlements like Kakwa, Borayangbi, Saiton, Kshetrigao, Keirao, Hatta, Kiyamgei, Urup, Lilong, Yairipok, Sora, Sangaiyumpham, Uchiwa, Khelakhong, Phoubakchao, Mayang Imphal Bengoon, Kheikhu, Panggong, Sekmaijin, etc attended the seminar.
The recommendations were adopted after a thorough discussions between the participants and the source persons.
