Imphal, November 18:
Along with the instruction to check whether NGOs receiving monetary assistance or funding from the State or Union Government are functioning properly or not, Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh has instructed the Planning Department to collect detailed report of activities of NGOs and the works executed by them along with relevant photographs so as to enable the public judge authenticity of NGOs.
A reliable source informed The Sangai Express that the initiative to monitor NGOs is being taken up consequent upon complaints that many NGOs working in different fields have been misusing/misappropriating funds sanctioned through them for various welfare and development schemes.
The Chief Secretary's written instruction sent to the Planning Department a few days back also asked the Department to collect detailed report of works undertaken by NGOs during the current fiscal year.
Subsequently, the Planning Department has asked the Deputy Commissioners to collect reports of works undertaken by different NGOs in their areas of jurisdiction along with photographs.
The photographs should be displayed at DC offices so that people can verify whether works claimed to have been executed by the NGOs are true or flimsy, disclosed the source.
Necessary actions will be initiated against NGOs found misusing fund or involved in fraudulent practices, mentioned the instruction.
All the State Departments too should check on their own whether NGOs under them are functioning properly or not, it asserted.
