Two new Sangai fawns have been born in the second home of Sangai at Langol recently and Nongin, the State bird which is believed to have become extinct can now be seen in Manipur Zoological Garden at Iroisemba, Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) A Kharsiing, IFS has informed.
Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of a Wildlife Photo Competition cum Exhibition held at Manipur Press Club here today, Kharsiing informed that two new fawns of Sangai were born at the Second Home of Sangai a couple of days back.
Along with this, one male Nongin is now in the Zoological Garden at Iroisemba, though it has not been arranged for public viewing, he added.
The exhibition is being organised under the aegis of Wildlife Wing, Department of Forest, Government of Manipur as part of the 55th Wildlife Week Celebration, 2010 .
Presided over by president of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union and Editor of The Sangai Express (Manipuri edition) Khogendra Khomdram, Conservator of Forest, Central Circle L Muhindro Singh, IFS; Environmentalist Dr Kh Samungou Singh and Editor of Imphal Free Press Pradip Phanjoubam, who are the jury members of the competition, were also present at the inaugural function.
Kharsiing observed that with development in photography technology, wildlife in the jungle including tiny insects and butterflies can be captured on the camera today.
