Imphal, September 01 2010:
Petroleum product transporters who had threatened to cease service with effect from october 1 over the transportation charge dispute, have called off their agitation plan.
A source informed that an agreement has been worked out during the joint meeting held today between an official team of Guwahati-based IOC's North East Integrated Sales Office and representatives of the petroleum product transporters.
Even though an amicable agreement on the core issue proved elusive when the meeting was held yesterday, today's joint session is informed to have culminated with the IOC team assuring the transporters that necessary procedures for fixing a revised transport rate would be completed within three months.
Apart from the assurance the IOC officials also urged the transporters to continue service taking into account inadequacy of petroleum products in the State which was responded in a positive manner by the transport operators.
It is also informed that despite agreeing to sustain service, the transport operators asserted that they would cease service in case the new transportation rate is not finalised within the specified period.
