With joy and gaiety, Idul Zuha was celebrated today in different parts of the State with exchange of gifts among different communities.
Joining Idul Zuha celebration, the All Manipur Ethnical Socio Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) organised a function under the theme, �Let�s give up communal thoughts; Let�s live together in harmony for the future generation� at Ghani English High School, Hatta Minuthong today.
The function was graced by AMUCO advisor Dr Dhanabir Laishram, president of the All Manipur Muslim Development Organisation Md Abdul Kalam Azad Inqilabi, AMESCO secretary general Nando, president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Memchoubi as presidium members.
The main features of the function were a prayer session to lord Allah, sharing a join feast and exchange of gifts.
Speaking on the occasion, Md Abdul Kalam while noting that Manipur is inhabited by different communities and ethnic groups, called upon all the people to unite together and to make joint efforts for development of the State.
After the Second World War, Qazis of Muslim community of the State shouldered greater responsibility in bringing about a green revolution in Manipur, asserted Dr Dhanabir Laishram.
He recalled that the Manipuri Muslims are descendents of Meitei women.
Dr Dhanabir stressed on the necessity to promote the principles of secularism in
the State.
Taking serious note of the fraternal killings among Muslim armed groups and also confrontations among Meitei armed groups, Dr Dhanabir Laishram said such disturbing trend will certainly cost dear to the Manipuri nation.
He prayed that this festival of Idul Zuha may bring an end to all such feuds.
Memchoubi wished that this festival may herald mutual love and peace among different communities of Manipur.
