Overall situation in the State in the aftermath of the July 23 firing at BT road remained relatively calm today but there was no let up in sit-in-protests, slogan shouting accompanied with burning of effigies and the attempted rallies in some parts.
Agitations persisted in parts of some areas including at Yairipok in Thoubal district and bamon Kampu which is in Imphal east district, in denunciation of the alleged police commando excesses.
Police commandos are being held responsible for the death of two persons, including a young expectant mother, besides injury caused to five others.
At yairipok Bazar Puja Lampak (ground), women from many pockets of yairipok Assembly Constituency staged protest demonstrations under the aegis of Nupi Khunai Lamjing Meira Lup, Yairipok which is a conglomerate of 45 organisations of the Assembly segment.
Placards and banners demanding resignation of the Chief Minister on moral ground, denouncing stage managed killing by security forces and stringent action against the police commandos involved in the BT road incident, were put on display at the protest zone.
The protest was supposed to be held at Yairipok bazar proper but had to be shifted to the nearby Puja Lampak owing to disapproval by district police.
Under the banner of Bamon Kampu Women's Welfare Association similar a protest session was organised at bamon Kampu of Imphal East district during which effigy of the CM was set ablazed amid din of resignation call.
Protest demonstrations were also staged at Khurai Thoudam Leikai, Brahmapur Aribam Leikai, Pheijaleitong and Samurou Bazar.
