Imphal, August 09 2009:
The Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) has strongly condemned the killing of Chongkham Sanjit and pregnant Thokchom Rabina by police commandos at BT Road on July 23, conveyed a press release.
It also decried the alleged deliberate move of Chief Minister O Ibobi to cover up the incident by misleading the entire elected legislators of the State during the Assembly session.
Taking strong exception to the Chief Minister's statements like "...it's time to show who is ruling the land...there is option but to kill...", the ZSUM observed that these statements demeaned the Manipur Assembly and dishonoured the entire members of the House.
Referring to the clarification issued by the Chief Minister's secretary after 17 days, the ZSUM maintained that the clarification was unacceptable.
"Was the Cabinet decision to deploy IRB and police commandos in the hill districts too a misquoted statement ?', asked ZSUM.
Chief Minister O Ibobi should gracefully step down for his total failure to govern the state, it demanded.
The ZSUM also demanded revocation of the Cabinet decision to deploy IRB and commandos in hill districts as well as the Memorandum of Understanding signed for construction of Tipaimukh project.
It further demanded impartial and independent investigation into all controversial killings or fake encounters as well as to award exemplary punishment to all those found guilty.
