Imphal, May 16:
As in the previous years, United Committee Manipur (UCM) will observe the Great June Uprising to pay homage to those who laid down their lives for the sake of the territorial integrity of Manipur on June 18, 2001 at Kekrupat.
Appealing to all the peopleto take part in the function to be held at the historic Kekrupat where the mortal remains of the eighteen brave sons and daughters of the soil have been put to rest, UCM also urged the State Government to declare a State holiday on the said day to enable people from all walks of life and far flung areas to pay their homage to the martyrs.
Taking into account organising separate function in the past, UCM information and public relations secretary Joy Chingakham further proposed for observing the Great June Uprising unitedly.
Maintaining that there are still danger being posed on the territorial integrity of Manipur, Joy took serious note of the efforts made by NSCN (I-M) for arriving at a political consensus on the issue by allegedly sponsoring candidates in the recent Parliamentary election as well as the pledge made by National JD (S) president and former Indian Prime Minister Deve Gowda for working towards integration of all Naga inhabited areas during his election campaign at Nagaland.
Inspite of all these dangers, UCM with the support of the people would relentlessly work for preserving the centuries old territorial integrity of Manipur, he said.
