Following appointment of members of MPCC election authority, organisations elections for the ruling Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has begun from the primary level.
On the other hand, it is being speculated that MPCC vice-president and Congress party's chief whip MLA T Mangibabu and Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board Elangbam Dwijamani may join the fray for the post of MPCC president.
Chairman (PRO) of Pradesh election authority MP Silvius Conddan appointed four members of the election authority by an order issued on January 30 .
It appointed L Manglem from Yaiskul A/C, A Pramodini from Keishamthong A/C, M Ranjit from Wangkhei A/C and L Shangam from Ukhrul A/C as members.
Organisational elections of the Congress party would be held in five phases starting with primary unit level between January 14 and April 30 .
Elections for block level will be held between May 15 and May 31 .
Elections for DCC level has been scheduled between June 7 and 27.Elections for MPCC president, PCC members and AICC members would be held between July 5 and 25 .
Plenary session for election of CWC members also be held during this period.
According to the election circular issued on January 18, powers of all incumbent office bearers of the party have been ceased but MPCC office bearers are still running their office.
Meanwhile, there have been many indications of the likely candidates for the post of party president.
T Mangibabu and E Dwijamani are among the likely candidates for the presidential poll scheduled to be held in July.
However, some party leaders opined that it would not be correct to elect party president from Thoubal as CM Okram Ibobi belongs to the same district.
