Minorities Commission visits Phailenthang, Borobekra

Imphal, December 26 2012: As conducted routinely to review whether the welfare schemes for the minorities are being implemented in equitable share and justification at the remote areas, a team of Manipur State Minorities Commission on 24 December, 2012 conducted field visits and spot verifications to Phailenthang Village in Churachandpur District and Borobekra in Jiribam Sub Division in Imphal East District.

Accordingly to a statement issued y Secretary of Manipur State Minorities Commission Dr Md Raheijuddin Sheikh, Phailenthang, a small village located at a distance of about 30 Kilometres from Jiribam Bazar on the way to Tipaimukh in Churachandpur, is found having acute shortages in infrastructure for educational Institutions, medical and health facilities, public distribution systems etc.

The people of this village are found facing many hardships in proceeding through the officials who are sitting at the District Head quarters at Churachandpur.

As the Tipaimukh road is not in a condition for travelling, they are found travelling either by waterways through Tipaimukh or by Imphal Jiribam Road and then by Imphal-Churachandpur Road which takes them at least two days on journey and some more days in the District Headquarter for any sort of Government related works.

The need for development in communication facilities is found to be at the top priority to redress the grievances of the people.

The Commission also visited Borobekra village in the Barak Circle of Jiribam and inspected the condition of educational, economical and living standards of the people.

The infrastructure of the Borobekra High School which has recently been upgraded to the Higher Secondary status with effect from the last Academic Session still found hardships for the shortage of infrastructure and manpower.

The Commission found only six teachers who are teaching upto the High School Level.

No teacher was found for teaching English, Maths and Science Subjects.

No laboratory and science equipment was found.

One block of the building constructed under the RMSA Scheme is found almost completed but no furniture is provided so far.

When interacted with the team, the students drew special attention of the State Education Department to look into the acute shortages of the School as it is the only school in the area where they should take basic education upto the XII standard otherwise; they have to go Assam crossing the Barak River or to drop out from pursuing higher education.
