Imphal, July 27 2009: Two suspected cadres of KCP-MC, who escaped by opening fire in the air, while their companion, who came for extortion, was lynched by the local people at Lilong Mairen Khul last night, have been apprehended by Thoubal district police.

Interestingly, the two KCP-MC suspects have turned out to be a Havildar and a Rifleman of IRB, said a highly reliably source on condition of anonymity.

The two, dubbed as KCP (MC) cadres, by the police, are identified as Thongam Rabikanta alias RK(26) s/o Tomba of Thoubal Athokpam Awang Leikai and Md Gabar Khan alias Abdul Gabar (38) s/o Amu of Lilong Dam.

It is reported that Rabikanta is a Rifleman in C-Coy of 3rd IRB while Md Gabar Khan is a Havildar of 4th IRB.

However Thoubal police, in a statement issued to the press today, did not say that they are IRB men.

According to a press release issued by Additional SP Jogeshchandra, on behalf of Thoubal SSP Clay Khongsai, said two cadres of KCP-MC were apprehended during frisking at Tangjeng along NH-39 at about 9.30 pm yes terday.

They disclosed that they have been working in the finance section of KCP-MC under one Wangoiba alias Shankar, a former cadre of the UNLF, Jogeshchandra conveyed.

However, the press release did not identify the duo as those who escaped from Mairen Khun last night.

However according to information received by the press, they were the same persons who escaped after a failed extortion attempt at Lilong Mairen Khun last night.

Meanwhile, the individual lynched yesterday has been identified as Huirongbam Suresh alias Wangoiba (29) s/o Jagoi of Oinam Laiphrakpham.

Suresh alias Wangoiba is said to be a former cadre of the UNLF.

Talking to media persons at RIMS morgue, family members said that Suresh had been living a settled life after he was released on bail as a UNLF cadre in 2007 .

Since then he had been working as a brick-layer.

Suresh went out at about 5.30 pm yesterday saying that he would be asking his money back from a person.

He left behind his wife and a two-month old daughter.

The corpse has been claimed by family members after post mortem at RIMS today.
