Imphal, August 09 2009: Protests continue in the state over an alleged fake encounter.

Despite the imposition of prohibitory order in Imphal area, the state has also continued to witness the burning down of effigy of CM O Ibobi as a part of the agitation launched by Apunba Lup against the fake encounter incident at Khwairamband Bazar on July 23 .

At Thoubal Kiyam Wangmataba Bazar, Kiyam Wangmataba Meira Paibee Lup, Kiyam Wangmataba Youth Development Organisation, and Life Care Foundation have held demonstration this afternoon wherein effigy of O Ibobi was also set ablaze.

Protestors also shouted slogans like 'Down CM,' 'punish killer commandos,' 'stop state terrorism,' etc during the protest.

At Singjamei Makha Liwa Lambi, Liwa Ideal Women Association has organised a sit-in-protest around 12pm.Protestors have also burned the effigy of CM O Ibobi.

Similar protests were also staged at Haobam Marak Naharol Yaipha Lamjing Lup ground, Bamonkampu, Khurai Thoudam Leikai, Khurai Sajor Leikai, Kongpal Iranpham Thongkhong and Nongpok Sanjenbam.

At Khurai Tinseed Road, roads were blocked with women's clothes.

Police have also foiled another sit-in-protest at Kakwa Makha Nameirakpam Leikai today around 11am.A protest which was staged at Khurai Heikrujam Makhong was also dispersed by the police.

Another sit in protest was also staged at Naharup in Imphal East.

Top Moirangkampu Makha leikai Meira Paibi Lup, Moirangkampu Meira Paibee, Khurai Ningthoubung Khunou Chaokhat Thourang Lup have also staged sit-in-protests at their respective places.

At the same time, Sekmai police have also resorted to open tear gas shells at Awang Sekmai and Tengdongyang today in order to disperse sit-in-protests and rallies in the area.

In Bishnupur district, protests were held today by several organisations to show support to the movement launched by the Apunba Lup.

At Oinam bazaar, sit-in-protest was staged by women protestors.

The protest was joined by Oinam Meira Paibee Lup, Nambol Area meira Paibee Lup, Irengban Women's Development Association and Yumnam Khunou Meira Paibee Lup.

Bishnupur police dispersed protestors while trying to carry out a rally this evening.

In Imphal area, sit in protests were held at Uripok Sinam Leikai, Akham Keithel Shang, Kongpal Laihiden, Yaiskul, Maklang Keithel.

Though sit in protests were held at various nook and crannies of the state, the messages were common: Protestors everywhere are demanding the resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi, and fitting punishment to guilty policemen involved in the Khwairamband incident.

At several places, the demands were displayed on banners and placards while at some places the protestors shouted the slogans.
