Imphal, August 26 2009:
Along with staging a sit-in-demonstration against the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident in front of Yumnam Leikai Lairembi ground here today, State unit BJP has urged the Centre to remove the SPF Government and impose President's Rule in Manipur.
The protest demonstration was held in defiance of the prohibitory order under CrPC 144 and was attended by president of State unit BJP Dr H Borbabu, former Chief Minister Wahengbam Nipamacha, former Speaker Dr Dhananjoy, former MLAs Salam Ibohal and Meinam Bhorot among other party leaders and chief functionaries.
Placards inscribed with slogans against the Government and the Chief Minister were used during the protest demonstration.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the demonstration, Dr Borbabu alleged that in addition to reading out a misleading statement on the Khwairamband Bazar incident in the floor of the Assembly, the Chief Minister has been trying to prevent inquiry into the incident inspite of announcing a Judicial inquiry.
To find out the truth, the case of Khwairamband Bazar incident should be handed over to the CBI and other Judicial inquiries should be ordered to probe other incidents of alleged fake encounters, he said.
Further alleging that IRB and Commandos have been converted into 'Killing Unit force' by giving them the license to kill people, Dr Borbabu asserted that it is in apprehension of the excesses of the IRB and Commandos, who have no qualms in indulging in fake encounters in the name of counter insurgency operations, that the people have objected to their deployment in the hills.
BJP supports the demand of the people in the hill districts, the State unit BJP president said, adding that there is no need for these forces and should be abolished.
Dr Borbabu said that with the support of the BJP leaders at the Centre, pressure would be exerted on the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to abolish the SPF Government which has not listened to the voices of the people and impose President's Rule in the State.
Preparations are also being made for the Opposition leaders to go to Delhi and stage dharna in this regard, he disclosed.
Former Chief Minister Wahengbam Nipamacha alleged that the SPF Government has failed in governance and ensure security to the lives and properties of the people.
As there is nothing to show that there is a Government in place, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh ought to resign, instead of clinging to his chair, Nipamacha added.
Meanwhile, cutting across community line, a large number of Meitei Pangals, Tangkhuls, Marings, Chirus, Kabuis and Meiteis joined together in staging a protest demonstration against the July 23 police firing incident at Khwairamband Bazar at Kapursungba village and later set aflame the effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, DGP Y Joykumar and MLA of Keirao A/C
Md Allauddin.
The protest demonstration was held under the aegis of Chingmi Tammi United Development Committee, Keirao Kendra.
The protestors demanded resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on moral ground over the July 23 incident of police firing that left two persons killed and five others injured and punishment of the police commandos involved in the incident.
