Govt employees rally for 6th Pay Commission sops
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, February 04 2010: Demanding that State Government adopt and implement recommendations of the 6th Central Pay Commission in toto, thousands of Government employees and pensioners took out a silent rally here today.

The silent rally was taken out under the aegis of Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Unions' Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees' Organisation (AMGEO) which is enforcing cease work strike in all the Government offices over the same demand.

The cease work strike completed 20 days today.

Flagged off from the office complex of the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West District at Lamphelpat, the rally snaked through Uripok, Nagamapal and Khoyathong and concluded at THAU ground, Thangmeiband where a joint meeting of the agitating pensioners and employees was held.

During the rally, the protestors carried placards inscribed with slogans like 'Immediate release of 26 percent DA', 'Lift ban on direct recruitment and fill up vacant post', 'Adopt 6th Central Pay in toto', etc.

Representatives and members of employees' bodies from Senapati, Chandel, Churachandpur, Tamenglong and Ukhrul also participated in the rally.

Resolving to intensify the ongoing cease work strike, during the meeting it was decided that the agitating employees would be locking up their respective offices from tomorrow and steps would be taken up to ensure participation of the security personnel and the staff of the Departments related to essential services in the ongoing cease work strike.

It was decided that JAC would begin a campaign from tomorrow so as to encourage the security personnel to launch a non-cooperation movement in support of the ongoing agitation.

Furthermore, the meeting resolved to launch court arrest and 'jail Bharo' agitation at the Chief Minister's gate if any of the volunteers of JAC were arrested by the law enforcing agencies and stage protest demonstration in front of the gate of the Secretariat so as to encourage the employees there to extend physical support to the ongoing stir.

The meeting proceeded with JAC advisor and former Joint Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Dr M Rajendro, vice president of JAC N Manihar, secretary general of JAC Ch Chandramani and president of Pensioners' Union H Yaima as presidium members.

Addressing the meeting, Chandramani pointed out that the demand being raised by Govt employees in the State today has already been implemented in other States like Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh and called upon the employees to stand unitedly and force the Government to concede.
