Imphal, December 26 2012: Taking pot shots at the State Government, MPP advisor and veteran political leader, O Joy has asserted that in stating that the permission of the Union Home Ministry would be sought to effect the arrest of Livingstone Anal of the NSCN (IM), the State Government has violated the Constitution of the country.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the function held to commemorate the 45th foundation day of the MPP at its office today, O Joy said that the political dialogue between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India is under the Constitution of the country.

This means that the Constitutional provisions should be applicable to cadres of the outfit.

Questioning why protection should be extended to cadres of the outfit when they violate the laws of the land, Joy said that there is no reason why Livingstone Anal should not be pulled up under the provisions of the law.

Stating that the State Government seems to be subservient to the NSCN (IM), the MPP leader further said that if the Chandel incident had been perpetrated by anyone else then he would have been arrested in no time.

It is this protection granted to the cadres of the outfit of the rebel group under the ceasefire pact that should not be acceptable.

The MPP was founded on this day in 1968 since the realisation dawned that under India, the interest of Manipur cannot be guaranteed, said Joy.

It was to counter the threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur, the threat of political and social dominance by India that gave birth to the MPP, he said and added that the earlier thought that Manipur would be better off by joining the Union of India has proved contrary.

Former president of the party and MPP advisor, Dr L Chandramani said that the MPP was formed to defend the territories of Manipur as well as to protect its identity.

When the MPP was in power, no efforts were spared to develop both the hills and the valley on an equal footing, he further claimed.

It is only a regional party like the MPP which can save Manipur, asserted former Minister Dr Chandramani and added that the survival of the MPP is important to protect the identity of Manipur.

MPP president N Sovakiran said that though the party at the moment does not have a single MLA in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, it is still strong.
