Imphal, July 27 2009: The budget session of the ninth Manipur legislative assembly drew to a close today with seven bills passed.

The sixth session of state assembly started on July 3 and there were 17 sittings altogether.

The number of starred questions which were put up by the members of the state assembly was 129, calling attention motions were 13, with 5 reports being submitted to the members of the house.

Seven bills were passed with one short discussion being held and two private member resolutions were brought up during the session.

Obituary for three ex-members was also held.

During the course of the session, the chief minister of Manipur assured the house on July 24 that there will be a sea-change in the supply of electricity in the state as the government is planning to be self-sufficient in power supply by then.

The chief minister also assured the members of the house that if any of the militant outfits involved in the signing of ceasefire or suspension of operation (SoO) with Manipur government is found to be involved in the extortion and collection of taxes from the vehicles plying on the national highways, appropriate actions would be taken up against those involved.

The chief minister informed the house on July 8 that the state government is extending help to the displaced villagers of N.C.Hills and it has been to the tune of Rs 3.64 lakhs.

He also informed the house that if Assam Rifles personnel were involved in the kidnapping of one Th.Megha of Singjamei, Imphal West district they would not be spared and action would be taken up against them.

Works minister K.Ranjit informed the house on July 10 that the responsibility for the maintenance of the National Highway 39, the life-line of Manipur, was entrusted to the state government by the centre government due to the lack of improvement under the care of border road organization (BRO).

Minister for youth affairs and sports (YAS) N.Biren announce in the house on July 14 that 5% reservation in government jobs would be implemented for sportspersons with the objective of encouraging promising players and sportspersons.

Two private resolutions regarding wetland conservation and followers of Sanamahi as one of the minority communities brought up by opposition members on July 10 were defeated in the house.
