Manipur Transport Minister L Jayanta Kumar Singh stated that as per instruction of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) would be implemented in Manipur before March this year.
The Transport Minister of Manipur along with the Transport Commissioner Shri H Imocha Singh and the Transport Director incharge BK Sharma were attending the 32nd meeting of the Transport Development Council held today at Main Committee Room of Parliament House Annexe here which was chaired by the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Shri Kamal Nath.
The Transport Minister also informed that the State of Manipur had six District Transport offices out of nine districts under the supervision of the Transport Director.
The Smart Card Project for issuance of Driving Licences (SARATHI) and Registration Certificates (VAHAN) had been implemented in three districts of Imphal East, Imphal West and Churachandpur in Manipur.
The preparation of necessary groun works and installation of requisite hardwares and softwares in the remaining District Transport Offices located at Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kangpokpi were completed and ready for commission by this month, he added.
As for National Permit, L Jayanta Kumar Singh expressed that the maximum registered carrying capacity of goods carriages is 15 tons only and those trucks were operated in two or three neighbouring States of the North eastern region under the National Permit.
He informed that the proposed composite fee at the flat rate of Rs 15,000/per year per truck was not acceptable and proposed for formulation of a separate composite fee structure for national permit in the case of North Eastern States.
