Imphal, October 29:
The body of Pukhrambam Suranjoy alias Sanjoy (25) of Laipham Khunou Mamang Leikai who was shot dead by personnel of 4 Assam Rifles on October 27 night is still lying at the mortuary of RIMS even as the local residents continued to protest the killing.
The bereaved family members or the JAC formed in connection with the killing has not yet responded to the request for taking back the body, said an official source, adding that the post-mortem of the body is likely to be conducted tomorrow.
Though the Assam Rifles claimed that Suranjoy was a member of an underground organisation and was shot dead during an encounter, the family members claimed that he was killed after being picked up from home.
Meanwhile, the JAC formed in connection with the killing organised a protest demonstration at Sangakpham Bazar today.
Attended by hundreds of local residents, the protest demonstration began from 9 am onwards and continued till 4 pm.
The JAC representatives informed that they are planning to meet the Chief Minister tomorrow.
If a solution could be brought about during the meeting, they might agree to take back the body , otherwise they would continue to intensify the ongoing agitation, they said.
A public meeting held at Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai Community hall yesterday afternoon had also resolved not to take back the body till the matter has been resolved and Govt fulfils the demand for pulling up the guilty AR personnel and giving adequate compensation to the bereaved family.
