Imphal, October 29:
Observing that the people of the State have become easy and helpless targets of the trigger happy and atrocious security forces, the All Kangleipak Students' Union has urged the State Government and all the political parties to work for revocation of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958.A statement issued by AKSU warned that all political offices and election related meetings would be banned if the draconian Act is not repealed from the State by November 20.Taking serious note of the failure of the 60 MLAs of the State to adopt any resolution towards revocation of the draconian Act despite sustained and massive movements undertaken by the people over the years, the student body flayed the utter irresponsibility of the elected representatives.
Recalling the incident of Th Manorama when the State Government forcibly cremated the body in mid-night after imposing curfew all over the State, AKSU pointed out the helplessness of the popular Govt in the face of the alleged colonial treatment and extreme excesses committed by armed forces in Manipur.
Reacting to the statement of Chief Minister ruling out repeal of AFSPA from the State, the student body construed that the statement was aimed at negating the raging people's movement for repeal of the infamous Act.
Asserting that the incumbent Govt is antipeople, it noted that there was no need to keep the Ministry in power any further.
