Imphal, August 11 2009:
After five revolutionary organisations of the region, including the Manipur Peoples' Liberation Front (MPLF), have called for a boycott of the forthcoming Independence Day celebration and general strike on the same day, the MPLF has appealed to the people to extend full support to its boycott call.
Commenting on the brutality and criminal activities being perpetrated in Manipur under the cloak of democracy, the MPLF asserted that the recent murder of Sanjit by criminal minded commandos was a clear testimony of this.
Simultaneously, the level of politics in Manipur has plummeted to the lowest level and this was testified by Chief Minister O Ibobi's attempt to condone the fake encounter and the words he used, it alleged.
Many innocent civilians have also been killed under cover of encounters.
The JACs constituted against these killings are a living testimony to this fact, the MPLF asserted.
Reminding that the only way to save the indigenous people from the rampant killings and atrocities of the alien is to win back the sovereignty of Manipur, the MPLF emphasised the critical importance of building a united strength of all the indigenous people of the region.
It further called upon the people to boycott the Independence Day on August 15 and also to make the day's general strike complete.
However, media, medical, water supply and religious functions will be exempted from the purview of the general strike, it added.
