Imphal, January 07 2010:
All Manipur Students' Guardian Organisation has urged the Government of Manipur to make January month as the deadline for filling up the forms of class X and XII examination without fine.
As announced by the Government earlier, the last date of filling up the forms for appearing in the class X and class XII annual examinations conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur respectively is till January 8 without fine and till January 13 with fine for class X and till January 7 without fine and with fine till January 14 for class XII .
Addressing a press conference in this connection at its office here today, general secretary of the Organisation O Yaima pointed out that the finalisation of last date of filling up the forms while the students are in a state of confusion following the class boycott agitation since September 9 last over the July 23 BT Road incident has caused apprehension in the minds of the parents/guardians.
He urged that form filling should be allowed whole of January month and no late fine should be imposed from the students.
Representative of All Manipur Government Recognised Private School Welfare Association N Tomba who was also present during the press conference observed consequent to the pressure from all sections of the society including the Guardian Association to end the impasse over the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident and allow the students to have normal classes, the agitating Apunba Lup has come up with an 11-point demands on the condition that the agitation would be called off if the Government agrees to these demands.
Unfortunately, the Government has turned down these demands.
It shows that the Government of Manipur is not concern about the welfare of the people and the student community in particular.
Instead of trying to bring about a solution, the Government is trying to prolong the ongoing impasse, Tomba alleged.
Maintaining that the Government should accept the 11-point demands, he also appealed to both the parties to resolve the matter within January 15 .
Working president of All Manipur Students' Guardian Association N Chaoba noted that there is the need to intensify the efforts and slogan for making education a free zone in Manipur.
The Government should also pay serious attention to development of more model schools by selecting those schools which already have adequate infrastructures, he added.
The class boycott has been in force since September 9 .
