Imphal, November 05 2009:
The period of the reign of the present Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government led by O Ibobi will be known as the 'darkest chapter' in history of state as maximum number of killings and militarisation took place, said the NE Zonal Organisation Secretary of BJP, Chandrasekhar Rao.
Speaking to reporters today at the BJP, Manipur Pradesh office premises located at Nityapat Chuthek here, Chandrasekhar Rao observed that eight years of Ibobi led SPF government's reign has been marked by killings.
The government has turned a deaf ear even when the law and order situation worsen day by day.
Demanding that the government to solve the insurgency-related problems of the state by initiating political dialogue, Rao observed that the state government should outline proper action plans sincerely to solve the problems.
He said solution to the problems of the state could not be reached by killing 15/20 persons a day.Rao also charged the Ibobi-led SPF government of being promoting corruption.
He further noted that the Congress government at the Centre has initiated action against the Jharkhand Chief Minister on corruption charge, but the Centre has burned a deaf ear to the corruption in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh where the Congress is in power.
Observing that the Centre has refused to initiate action against the state government despite reports that the Central's sponsored schemes have not been utilised and implemented in the state, Rao expressed deep apprehension whether the Centre is enjoying commission on the sanctioned amounts to departments concerned.
The Centre and State Governments remained deaf ear even as security forces killed and meted out accesive to the people, Rao noted while pointing out the incidents of the planting and exploding of bombs at the CM and Governor's bungalows.
Alleging the Centre and State governments of maintaining indifferent attitude to the breakdown of law and order in the state, Rao further charged that the Centre and State are more tempted by power rather than solving the problems.
Charging the Ibobi led government of having nexus with a militant group, the BJP leader said the recent victory of the Congress in the election with the support of the militants was a testimony to the alleged 'unholy' nexus.
He also lamented that the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram even did not visit the state to review the law and order situation even when it is at its worst.
Saying that the BJP is committed to solving the Khwairamband incident of July 23 seriously, the BJP leader assured that the party will bring the matter to the parliament in the coming session slated to begin on November 19 .
He added that the party will launch intense agitation in collaboration with students' organisations of the North East and particularly that of the state's students' bodies.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP Manipur Pradesh president Dr H Borbabu observed that instead seeking to bring a permanent solution to the Khwairamband incident and the agitations aftermath, the government has played a divide and rule policy to spoil the agitation.
