Overground member of the insurgent outfits in Manipur are "White collar terrorist" Major General, AK Choudury, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) said Friday while reiterating the insurgency problems in the region should be solved by political means.
The major general also said that the extortion network of the insurgent outfits is very vast with the involvement of the members of the outfits working overground.
That is why, security forces, police and Army are treating overground members same as that treated to the underground members.
Security forces and police force in the state are treating the overground members as same as underground members as they are taking main role in the extortion from the people, he said speaking to the media persons today.
Extortion is the main problem facing in Manipur.
Overground members of the underground outfits are actively engaging in the activities.
The network between the members of the underground outfits and overground members are very vast.
As such dealing with them has become a very complicated one.
He also sought the co-operation of the people in dealing extortion activities of the underground."Without the support from the people extortion menace in Manipur could not be curbed.
So, we need people co-operation," Choudury said.
The insurgency problems in the north eastern region of the country could not be solved with arm but it should be solved through political dialogue, he commented.
Giving a comment on the demand for repeal of Armed Forces Special Power Act, 1958 from the North Eastern region, he said that without Act, security forces will not able to counter with the activities of the insurgents.
But, he said, Assam Rifles and Army can be withdrawn at any time from the region when if state police force can control the overall law and order.
