Oinam Bikramjit, an activist of the Apunba Lup which is spearheading the mass movement against the July 23 Khwairamband killings, has been re-arrested by Nambol Police, while Mutum Ibemhal, another activist of the Lup, has been remanded to judicial custody.
Bikramjit of Oinam Mamang Leikai and Ibemhal of Uripok Sorbon Thingel Leikai were arrested along with two other activists by Imphal West District Police from the house of Ibemhal in the night of September 1. Another activist, YK Dhiren of Top Moirang-kampu was also arrested in the same night.
While the other three were released the next day, Bikramjit and Ibemhal were detained in police custody with due permission from the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal.
Bikramjit and Ibemhal were produced before the same Court today which remanded them to judicial custody till September 17. However, Bikramjit was re-arrested under IPC Section 447/436/427/34 in connection with an FIR registered at Nambol police station.
The case was related to the burning of Nambol SDO office in the wee hours of August 20. Ibemhal was remanded to judicial custody as she refused to go out on bail.
The other Apunba Lup activists released earlier were late Rabina's grand-mother Mayanglambam Radhesana of Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai, Oinam Amuthoi of Oinam Mamang Leikai and Dhiren.
The Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has been demanding resignation of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi over the July 23 fake encounter which claimed the lives of pregnant Rabina and retired PLA cadre Ch Sanjit.
