Imphal, November 05 2009:
The Movement for Tribal People's Rights (MTPR), Manipur has called upon the JAC of Kuki Chiefs' Association, Thadou Students' Union and Thadou Tribe Union to reconsider the decision for enforcing 24 hours general strike in Chandel district.
Expressing that demand raised by JAC for removal of the Chief Executive Officer of Autonomous District Council, Chandel is totally against the wishes and interest of the tribal people, an MTPR statement also ridiculed the JAC's specific demand that the CEO be replaced by a non-tribal.
This demand has grievously hurt the sentiments of the tribal people, it said with reference to CEO's replacement.
The main purpose for the existence of Kuki Chiefs' Association, the Thadou bodies or any tribal-based organisation is to strive for the upliftment and betterment of the communities concerned in particular and the tribal people in general, MTPR vice president Adin Gangmei maintained in the statement.
Terming as regrettable and politically motivated demands raised by the JAC, Adin also suggested that sorting out ways and means for an amicable solution will be beneficial for the tribal people.
