Imphal, October 29:
During the compilation of Manipur Government Employees' List (MGEL) by National Informatics Centre (NIC), 150 employees were found to have been appointed without posts in the Fishery Department.
Moreover the State Government has decided to initiate action against appointment made in Labour Department by misinterpreting Court rulings.
A reliable source informed The Sangai Express that the State Government is planning to issue identity codes to all its employees once the compilation of MGEL is completed.
Salaries for the 150 employees of the Fishery Department have been kept withheld but it has not been decided as to what kind of action would be taken up against them, disclosed the source.
A top official of the Fishery Department informed this reporterthat the 150 employees were appointed in absence of relevant posts in 1983.
The employees, most of whom worked as fish farm attendants were once terminated by the Government but they were again re-appointed as per a ruling of the Court, he mentioned.
Since then the number of employees has gone down to about 133 as many have expired while some have left their jobs, added the official.
On the other hand, the State Government has initiated process to suspend top officials of Labour Department for appointing 24 employees by deliberately misinterpreting a Court ruling.
Further, the Vigilance Department has not only identified the officials involved in the foul play but also recommended major penalties against them.
The Vigilance had already conducted a thorough investigation into the matter.
It is reported that the Revenue Department was also rationalised recently after 40/50 employees were found serving in the Department as in-charge SDCs which was a non-existent post during MGEL compilation of the Department.
Meanwhile, contrary to the earlier claim of 18,000 employees in the Department of Education (Schools), only the names of 13,000 employees were submitted by the DDO during the MGEL compilation of the same Department.
The State Government has started work to recover the amount released to the Department for the 5000 non-existent employees, informed another source.
