Imphal, January 13 2010:
As many as 234 traps laid for trapping animals and birds have been recovered from Keibul Lamjao National Park during the anti-poaching drive conducted by the park officials since August 2009 .
A statement issued by the Deputy Conservator of Forests: Park and Sanctuary informed that two persons who entered the park and laid the traps were apprehended.
The two persons Heisnam Bira (46) son of (L) H Yaima of Khordak Awang Leikai and Laishram Kripa (40) son of L Thoiba of Thanga Khunjem Terapokpi have been fined Rs 6,000 and Rs 2000 respectively.
The statement appealed to all concerned public not to indulge in illegal activities of hunting, poaching and killing of wild animals inside the park.
It further appealed to the public to assist the department in booking the culprits and in protecting the park.
