TO CURB the menace of doping and create a clean and healthy environment for sports in the country, the government on Wednesday named three panels under the new anti-doping rules, which come into effect from Thursday.
Accordingly, Retired Additional District Judge Dinesh Dayal will head the nine-member Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel which will hear the athletes who have been tested positive for dope and, after a fair hearing, determine punishment as prescribed under the anti-doping rules.
Hockey Olympian M P Ganesh, former athlete Kamaljeet Sandhu and ex-shuttler Dinesh Khanna are members of this panel.
Retired High Court Judge C K Mahajan will chair the four-member Anti Doping Appeal Panel which will hear the appeals by sportsper-sons who have been awarded punishments by the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel.
Hockey Olympian Nandi Singh and former table tennis player Indu Puri are among the members of this panel.
The Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee (TUEC) comprises three eminent and highly qualified medical practitioners who have expertise in the field of General Medicine, Pharma-cology and Chest Diseases and Dr CD Tripathi, Dr JC Suri and Dr HL Nag have been named in this panel.
The main function of TUEC will be to consider applications of athletes who are seeking therapeutic use exemption on the grounds of medical condition requiring use of a prohibited substance or a prohibited method.
The Ministry also said that the new and modern premises for the National Dope Testing Laboratory, which recently got the WADA accreditation, is now at final stages of construction.
