Imphal, October 06:
While clarifying that due to communication gap certain members of the press fraternity had to face inconveniences during the North East Students Organisation (NESO) sponsored bandh yesterday the student organisation also strongly condemned the Assam Government for detaining student volunteers.
A NESO press statement issued today informed that the arrested volunteers were later released but the Assam Government action is no less than challenging the endeavour of the people to express their grievances in a peaceful manner.
Reacting to lukewarm response to the bandh call in Tripura the student body said illegal migrants now constitute almost two-third of the population.
It is a forgone conclusion and an acceptable fact that in areas dominated by illegal migrants the bandh call, given to protest imposition of AFSPA and continued influx of aliens in the region, would not be successful to the desired level, said the statement.
The statement jointly issued by the NESO chairman and general secretary, however, expressed that arrest of the latter had diminished the effect of the bandh execution.
