Three militants were killed in a shoot out with a combined security force at Laphupat Tera located about 20 kms from Mayang Imphal police station early morning today.
The security personnel also recovered one AK-56 rifle from the slain militants.
The combined security personnel were drawn from Imphal West police, Imphal East police, Thoubal police, Bishnupur commandos, 33 Assam Rifles and 19 Grewal Rifles, said police sources.
Top ranking police officials including the Addl SP of Imphal West Th Radheshyam also took part in the operation.
According to information received here, the combined force were kept on the alert near Laphupat Tera, Khordak Ichin and other places since last night and the operation was launched early this morning.
At about 6.30 am a fierce gun battle broke out between the security force and the militants, said sources.
Three militants were killed in the encounter and security personnel recovered one AK-56 rifle and some SLR ammunition from their possession.
The bodies of the three militants were retrieved by the Mayang Imphal police and deposited at RIMS morgue for identification and post mortem.
All the bodies bore multiple bullet wounds.
