Imphal, December 28:
Accusing the Medical and Engineering Coaching Institute (MECI) of collecting huge amount of money from students besides corrupting the minds of the young students, DESAM has banned the institute indefinitely with the objective to abolish it.
Speaking to reporters today at DESAM head office, its vice-president PC Newton said that DESAM has been taking aid and donations from all people ranging from cobblers to bureaucrat officers and Ministers for its campaign to bring quality education and a progressive society in the State.
As such, DESAM sought some monetary help from MECI without fixing a particular amount in connection with the foundation anniversary of DESAM.
However, MECI resorted to delaying tactics after which two volunteers of DESAM went to the institute who were not only verbally abused but were pushed by the neck, Newton said.
Disclosing that there was no case of any brawl because of the incident even though some strong words were exchanged between DESAM and MECI authorities, Newton flayed the MECI authorities for persuading their students to stage a sit-in-protest today even after the impasse was settled with the MECI director Bidakishore earlier today at DESAM office.
Accusing MECI authority of misleading people and maintaining double standard, DESAM general secretary LC Santosh observed that the diabolic attempt of MECI authority to create an issue out of such non-issue is a clear indicator that the authority is not concerned for welfare of students but focusing only on earning huge amounts of money.
PC Newton further appealed to the guardians and parents of students studying in MECI to keep their children away from the institute and to ask for refunding the amount deposited at MECI.
Banning entry into the institute, he said DESAM would not entertain argument in this regard.
He further warned that any one defying the ban would be held responsible for any untoward incident.
