Imphal, December 28:
Alleging continued deprivation of development works in Sekmai (Awang) areas, the people of this important location through which the National Highway 39 passes has threatened to launch intense agitation from january 15 in case its demand for a concrete assurance within January 10 to carry out developmental works is not honoured.
under the aegis of Advance Women Society, Awang Sekmai large number of womenfolk guided newspersons to illustrate their points of office buildings laying in tatters and pathetic roads since long back.
The areas covered in today's unofficial inspection include offices of the SDO, electricity, employment exchange, community health centre, veterinary office, Sekmai-Khurkhul and Sekmai-Kanto, as well as inter village roads of Sekmai proper.
Evidently the Sekmai SDO office building was found to pock-marked with holes on the roof and the side walls due to which, according to the Society's president Angom (O) Shanti Devi people of Sekmai had been suffering for the last many years as employees face inconveniences owing to the dilapidated office structure.
With the electricity Office block no different from the SDO office, Shanti contended that compared to hardly 1/2 hour of power supply on regular basis and total blackout occasionally the consumers are nevertheless not spared from receiving bills calculated at the maximum.
As repeated apprisals to the Chief Engineer for improving the power situation remaining unheeded the only expectation left with the Sekmai public is to atleast ensure its due share as the consumers are well aware of the power crisis besieging the entire State, expressed the body's representative.
Regarding the CHC, upgraded from PHC in 2002, Shanti lamented that available facilities and service provided at the health centre hardly justifies the status of being a CHC as there is no improvement in the infrastructure till date.
Adding to the grievances of Sekmai and nearby populace is deplorable condition of residential quarters for Veterinary Office staffs/doctors, and symbolic existence of the level primary school and Excise office, chronic problem of drinking water supply.
Shanti desired that the two kilometre Sekmai-Khurkhul road be metalled, expedite black-topping of the Sekmai-Kanto road while claiming that due to persistent negligence locals contributed their mite for black-topping of inter-village roads.
Reminding the State authorities to ensure Sekmai public also enjoy fruit of modern amenities by taking appropriate measures within January 10, failure to honour the humble proposal would compel the locals to resort to intense agitation including bandhs and blockades, Shanti cautioned.
