The five day long economic blockade along the National Highway 53 is in full swing since last night (midnight of July 22) after it was imposed by the Zeliangrong Students Union of Nungba Area, Nungba Youth Organisation and Nungba women body demanding that infrastructure including x-ray machine and medical facilities be provided for the Primary Heath Centre at Nungba subdivi-sional headquarters and also that the transfer order of Dr Z Kamei from the primary health centre be withdrawn.
Zeliangrong Students Union, Nungba Area convenor Lumgaipou Kamei informed NNN this afternoon that trucks coming from both ends including five trucks fully loaded with cement bound for Imphal have been stranded at various points in Nungba area.
He further informed that numerous trucks have also been stranded at Jiribam.
The Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has also announced that it is fully backing the agitation.
The organisations demanded that Dr.Z Kamei should not be transferred from the Nungba Primary Health Centre at any cost saying that the doctor is sincere and dedicated in his job.
The agitating organisations stated that further drastic steps would be initiated in the event of the failure of the state government to fulfill their demands after the ongoing five day long economic blockade.
They also stated that a memorandum had already been submitted to the chief minister in this regard earlier.
Meanwhile, the Tengkonjang Higher Secondary School Students Union, Longmai (Noney) has urged the Longmai Village Authority and the longmao Bazar Board not to interfere in students activities while the students body is trying to bring development in the area.
It said that befitting action would be taken against to those bodies who interrupt the students body affairs.
The Tengkonjang Higher Secondary School Students Union has also imposed a three day economic blockade from today demanding the fulfilment of their demands.
the body said that out of 12 teachers posted for the higher secondary school, five teachers are yet to report to the institution.
It also urged to install science equipments for the institution at the earliest.
The students body threatened to take up further course of action if the government fail to address their plights.
