Following an understanding reached with the Government, the JAC formed in connection with the death of a child and causing injuries to another person in the grenade attack on police commandos by unidentified gunmen and subsequent firing exchange at Wangjing Bazar yesterday afternoon, has agreed to take back the body and call off the Thoubal bandh with immediately effect.
The understanding was arrived at during a joint meeting of the representatives of the JAC and the Chief Minister at the latter's office today.
During the meeting, the two parties agreed that the completion of the inquiry being conducted by IG S Dinokumar within three weeks' time, consideration on payment of compensation to the injured in accordance to the inquiry report and payment of ex-gratia amount to the bereaved family before the Shradha ceremony.
Following the agreement, the JAC has also agreed to call of Thoubal district bandh and related agitation with immediate effect from today.
The body of A Surjakanta, the child victim has also been handed over to the family members after a post-mortem conducted on it at RIMS Hospital.
Before the agreement with the Govt, the JAC and other bandh supporters did not allow any of the vehicles coming toward Wangjing area since early morning today.
