A District Level Khadi Mela which would continue for five days has begun from today at Japhou Bazar in Chandel District headquarters.
The Mela is being organised by Manipur Khadi and Village Industries Board, Imphal under the sponsorship of Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Mumbai.

Speaking at the occasion, MLA Thangkholun Haokip observed that Chandel district is one of the most backward districts in the State.
In order to bring about development, there is the need to cultivate and promote a work culture among the people of the district.
When the Government of India has set the target of making India a developed nation in the world by 2020, the people of Chandel district should not remain sitting idle but put their acts together for propelling the pace of developmental activities in the district, the MLA said while hoping that organising such melas would help the co-operative societies and self help groups in the district to exhibit and market their products.
In his presidential address, Kh Borkeshore expressed concern over the fact that the Government of India has stopped sanctioning of many schemes for the development and welfare of the people as the same have not been implemented properly.
This is really unfortunate and a great loss for the people, he said, adding that all of us should understand the importance of these developmental schemes and implement them successfully so as to extend the benefit to the people.
He also appealed to the people to cultivate the habit of returning loan taken from various financial institutions.
