New Delhi, November 05:
Taking note of serious charges levelled against a man who was arrested last month along with two cadres of the UNLF, a Court here has rejected his bail plea and said he could "influence" witnesses if he was released.
"The offences are serious and grave in nature and there is sufficient incriminating material against him on record which shows a prima facie nexus between him and the militant groups," Additional Sessions Judge Rajiv Mehra observed while rejecting the bail plea of Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh, arrested on October 2 for allegedly possessing classified information.
"There is every likelihood that he may influence the witnesses if he is enlarged on bail," the judge said in his order yesterday.
The Special Cell of Delhi Police nabbed Shyamkumar Singh with two of his close associates from Indira Gandhi International Airport with a pen drive and a CD.
These contained information about the deployment of armed forces in the NE including Manipur and had information concerning details of arms, ammunition and explosives available with members of UNLF, police alleged.
The police also revealed that Singh was allegedly involved in two other cases in which two FIRs have been lodged against himone in Imphal and the other in Meghalaya.
Singh also allegedly organised a meeting of members of UNLF and KYKL outside India.
He travelled to Nepal on August 24, 2006 to scout for suitable hideouts and a place to organise the meeting.
He returned to India with his two associates who are S/S Cols of UNLF, police alleged.
The Special Cell further alleged that Singh's house was often used as a hideouts and for the purpose of holding meetings of KYKL.
He was booked under various sections of the IPC, UA (Prevention) Act and Official Secrets Act.
"The incriminating material against him on record is sufficient to show that he is having soiled hands," the judge observed while delivering his order.
