MANIPUR ASSEMBLY has resolved to urge the Central authority for early establishment of a separate high court of Manipur for the fourth time on Friday.
The resolution
was passed in the afternoon session of the day's assembly session following a private member resolution by four opposition MLAs of President Manipur People's Party including senior leaders O Joy Singh , Dr Ng Bijoy Singh, Dr I Ibohalbi and RK Anand.
It may be worth mentioning here that the house of 60 had passed three
subsequent resolutions for its early establishment of the High Court and the same has not yet been implemented.
The first and second resolutions were passed in 1982 and
1997 respectively when late Yumnam Yaima and Wahengbam Nipamacha were the speakers while the third in 2007 with the present speaker urging the other member of the house
to support the private member resolution.
O Joy said 'the house shouldn't ignore the previous resolutions in this regard.
Even Sikkim has separate high court he said.
Moving the resolution, Dr Bijoy Said due to absence of state's high court, there are around 8000 pending cases in the region while Dr Ibohalbi observed that absence of
a separate high court means denial of the people's rights under article 214 of the constitution.
State's Law Minister Th Debendra, welcoming the move of the four members
of the house, expressed his desire to set up the high court" without delay.
As none of the members' opposes the move, the house unanimously resolved 'to urge for early establishment of a separate-high court.
