Imphal, September 25 2009:
Raising the demand of formulating a State Transport Policy and implementation of section 74 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 fully, Manipur Bus Association has warned of surrendering their respective permits to the Transport Director if the demands are not considered within September 30 .
Addressing a press conference in this connection at its Paona Bazar, Governor Road office, Association secretary Arambam Priyokumar lamented that the Government has been sidelining these long standing demands of the Association.
If these demands were not considered by September 30, the Association would surrender all the bus permits to the Transport Director on October 3, he announced.
He further informed that more than 1000 buses plying in various routes under the Association have been issued only stage carrier permit whereas the Tata Magic taxi vans have been given contract carrier permit thereby causing setback in the services of the buses.
Moreover, the taxi service providers are violating section 74 of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Transport Department has been accepting registration of many new transport societies.
The Association is also in possession of necessary documentary evidences regarding issuing permits to Tata Magic van plying between Wangjing and Imphal to do service from Imphal to Lilong as well, Priyokumar added.
