Imphal, November 23 2009:
Despite several rounds of meetings among opposition parties, more specifically between MPP and BJP to put up a common candidate in Yaiskul A/C by-poll, the two parties are still unable to take a final decision.
While the joint meeting of the MPP MLAs and its advisory committee has been called off, a meeting of the State BJP unit held today ended without adopting a definite decision.
Another round of meeting has been convened on November 25 .
Speaking to media persons today, MPP president and MLA O Joy said that the decision to put up candidate or not for the by-poll cannot be decision in haste.
"There is still time and we would be observing political developments", they said.
Nevertheless, the party has been consulting with other like minded parties on fielding a common candidate.
The two MPP leaders said that voters should exercise their right to franchise prudently with due consideration of the prevailing situation of Manipur.
On the other hand, a meeting of the BJP State unit office bearers was held today with party president Dr H Borbabu in the chair.
But the meeting ended unable to take a definite decision on putting up candidate or not.
Nevertheless, the party has been working hard to adopt a final decision on the matter.
For this, a joint meeting of State party leaders, Morcha leaders, Yaiskul Mandal leaders and senior leaders has been convened at 1 pm of November 25 .
Saying that there is no binding condition for BJP either to field its candidate or not in the Yaiskul by-poll, Borbabu said that there was still time to put up a common candidate of opposition parties.
He also underscored the necessity to take into account any decision that may be adopted by the Apunba Lup and the three student organisations with regard to the by-poll.
On the other hand, no information can be elicited from the ruling Congress party regarding the by-election.
Nevertheless, certain information might be forthcoming once MPCC president Gaikhangam and CLP leader O Ibobi return from Delhi.
