Imphal, April 22:
With the objective of bringing about a green revolution in Manipur, the State Government would be taking up necessary measures in close coordination with cultivators of the State very shortly so as to make each village a model village.
This was stated by Agriculture Minister N Loken during an inspection tour to Nongren Thengulok where potato cultivation under Integrated Pest Management (IPM) has been successfully initiated.
Talking to reporters during the inspection tour, Loken said that the Agriculture Department is currently taking up various IPM schemes successfully in different parts of the State in close cooperation with different NGOs and farmers.
He also appealed to all concerned not to pose any hindrance or disturbance to these schemes aimed at improving the economy of Manipur and ultimately making Manipur self-reliant.
He also raised strong objection against forfeiting or taking certain percentages from the funds and other benefits sanctioned for the welfare of farmers.
In response to the complaint of the farmers that the field on which potato is being cultivated gets inundated when there is some rain, the Agriculture Minister assured that a 3 kms long canal will be dug out soon to drain out water.
To a query, Loken disclosed that the Government is yet to study on implementation of Crop Insurance Scheme even though the same scheme has been implemented in other States of India.
The Minister was accompanied by Director of Agriculture Department RK Nayansana, AO (Chemistry) Ph Rajendra and other officials.
