Imphal, June 17:
With the firm stand of the students of the School of GNM under the State Medical Department to boycott classes already jeopardising their career, parents, guardians and the general public have appealed to the authority concerned to solve the issue at the earliest so that the academic career of these students are not put in shambles.
It may be mentioned here that the mid-term assessment examination for third year students conducted by the Assam Nursing Council scheduled from May 29 was postponed indefinitely following agitation by the students.
On the other hand, according to the rules of the Council, it is compulsory to held three mid-term assessment examinations in a year apart from the final assessment.
For the 121 third year students of the School of GNM, it is still uncertain as to when will the first mid-term assessment examination be held.
Above that, the parents are deeply concerned whether the School will be able to cover the voluminous syllabus prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council this year.
Inability to cover the syllabus within the academic year will seriously jeopardise the academic career of these nursing students, they opined.
On the other hand, pressing for their demands, the students have already sealed all the class rooms as well as rooms of teaching and non-teaching staff.
Further, the students prohibited the teaching and non-teaching staff of the School from entering the School campus today.
It may be recalled here that after the students launched their agitation on May 28, Health Secretary P Vaiphei had assured the GNM students that all their demands will be fulfilled within two days.
As the assurance of the Health Secretary did not materialise, the students took up more intense agitation, storming the office of the Medical Directorate yesterday.
The GNM students maintained that they will continue the agitation until and unless their demands are fulfilled completely.
