Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appealed to all concerned to keep young students of middle schools away from participation in any public agitation over one issue or the other.
Addressing a press conference at its office here this afternoon, secretary general of the student body LC Santosh observed that students should not be forced to come out of their classes and participate in any Wakat Meephams, rallies or any other form of agitations over one issue or the other.
In a State like Manipur where there is a political conflict yet to be resolved, there is the need to have a very sound education system to impart knowledge to the students, he noted, adding that DESAM has been working towards this end all these years.
He said, keeping this objective in mind, an open discussion on theme of the 'desire direction that our education should lead' was organised at State Guest House from June 14 to 16.After the open discussion, the moderators and the representatives of DESAM came together for a serious discussion on the issue and adopted seven recommendations and submitted the same to all the authorities concerned for implementation.
The recommendations were to appeal to all concerned to consider education as an essential service and exclude the educational institutions from the purview of bandh/strike, to urge the teachers and the students to restrain from resorting to class boycott and the students from participating in any agitation, to urge upon all concerned not to serve huge monetary demands to the educational institutes as well as on developmental activities related to education, to dissuade authorities concerned not to keep their interest in mind at the time of transferring, posting and appointment of teachers and to put pressure for formulating am effective education policy in the State and facilitate orientation and refresher courses for teachers from time to time.
