Along with pulling up a woman who allegedly supplied Mithamana, a large quantity of Zarda, Khaini and Talab seized by the proscribed outfit RPF from different parts of the State in connection with its ban on selling and consumption of tobacco products have been set on fire in front of the people today.
The Mithamana supplier pulled by a team of division-IV RPF has been identified as Laitonjam Hemolata Devi (47) w/o Jadumani of Kakwa Makha Nameirakpam Leikai.
While the persons from whom the tobacco products have been seized are identified as Kangujam Sangeeta Devi (22) of Khongman Okram Chuthek, Ape Devi (21) d/o Gurumayum Thambal Sharma of Thongju Pheija Leitong and Ningombam Sampha (35) and Okram Thambou (35), both residents of Okram Chuthek.
Parading Laitonjam Hemolata before mediapersons somewhere in Imphal West district in the evening today, a spokesperson of the RPF Division-IV informed that tobacco products were seized during the course of a drive launch on receiving intelligence inputs on consumption and selling of toba cco products in defiance of the ban.
The spokespersons said that in consideration of her feminine status, the mistake committed by Hemolata would be forgiven along with stern warning against committing the same mistake again in future.
She would be handed over to her family members safely.
However, restriction would be imposed on her movement outside the house for three months.
On the other hand Sangeeta, Ape, Sampha and Thambou should surrender to the outfit within three days from today, the spokesperson said while warning of stern action in case they fail to do so.
The spokesperson further informed that during the course of interrogation of Hemolata in the custody of the RPF, it has been known that Bamon Noren, Modhuchand, Yengkhom Shanti Devi, Naorem Kunjeshwori Devi, Sagolsem Somoni Devi, Thaba Devi, N Thambalsana Devi, N Dasu, all residents of Kakwa Makha Nameirakpam Leikai, Romi of Singjamei Parking, Roma of Kakwa Bazar, Thamon of Lilando Lampak, Laishram Thasana and Konsam Roma of Sairok Lairak are selling as well as consuming tobacco products.
All of them should also surrender to the outfit within three days and the shops should remain closed for three months, the spokesperson said.
