The 40th anniversary of Manipur People's Party (MPP) which would be celebrated for 15 days has begun from today.
The inaugural function of the celebration was held at the party office complex located behind Mapal Kangjeibung here today with leader of the MPP Legislature Wing MLA O Joy and party president Dr L Chandramani as chief guest and functional president respectively.
Party MLAs RK Anand, Dr Ng Bijoy, I Ibohalbi, Ex-MP Thounaojam Chaoba, Nimaichchand Luwang were also among other party officials who shared the dais.
Addressing the gathering after unfurling the party flag to inaugurate the celebration, O Joy said the role of regional party is of great significance in the present situation of Manipur which is marked by misgovernance and wide spread resentment.
So there is the need to strengthen regional party like MPP.
Born at a crucial period in the history of Manipur, MPP has been not only trying to protect the cultural identity of the people, but also safeguard the integrity of the State.
MPP considers all those who are opposed to the integrity of Manipur as enemies and would not compromise on this count at any cost, he stated firmly.
MPP would never agree to sacrificing the interest of the people of Manipur at the cost of welfare of the Government of India.
The politics of MPP is not to indulge in personal whim but for the welfare of entire Manipur, he said, adding that various important issues of the State like the position of women in the society, role of politics in Manipuri society and the issue of delimitation would be highlighted and deliberated upon seriously during the fortnight long celebration of the party's 40th foundation day.
In his address as president of the function, Dr L Chandramani said it is high time for the people of Manipur to wake up to the misrule and the anti-people policy of the National party in Manipur.
So it is the duty and the responsibility of all the people to strengthen the position of MPP to save Manipur from disintegration, he exhorted.
Many other party MLAs and leaders also spoke at the occasion.
